About Image Metrology

Image Metrology, founded in 1998, is now a subsidiary of Digital Surf. With our decades of experience in microscopy image processing, we contribute to the research, developmen, and continuous innovation of MountainsSPIP®— the industry-leading SPM image analysis software that builds on the legacy of SPIP™.

Company history

Image Metrology was founded by Dr. Jan F. Jørgensen as part of an industrial PhD collaboration with IBM Denmark, the Danish Institute of Fundamental Metrology and the Technical University of Denmark. Over the years, SPIP™ (Scanning Probe Image Processor) became recognized globally for its powerful toolkit to process and analyze microscopic images at nano- and microscale.

In June 2014, Image Metrology was acquired by Digital Surf, and together we began development of MountainsSPIP®, which was first released in July 2019. As of January 2020, SPIP™ is no longer marketed. MountainsSPIP® replaces SPIP™ and is now the actively supported solution for image and SPM analysis under Digital Surf.

Company mission

Our mission, now carried out as part of Digital Surf, is to develop and deliver state-of-the-art tools for microscopy image processing and SPM/AFM/STM analysis, including:

  • Correction tools to accurately represent the "true" surface in images
  • Automated analysis routines to ensure high accuracy, improved quality and cost-efficiency
  • Advanced visualization and customizable reporting tools to communicate results clearly

All this R&D is carried out in collaboration with international partners, research institutes and the broader microscopy community, with the goal of adding new, innovative features to MountainsSPIP®.
